$NEAR Protocol’s native token, $NEAR, gained over 18% in value today. Following the surge, the project team stated via X that “the world has awakened to the need for user-generated AI.”

According to the $NEAR Protocol, user-owned AI means that the data belongs to the user, transactions made on behalf of the user are verifiable, there is equal access to neutral markets, and the AI is positioned on the user side.

The project argued that user-generated AI should not be limited to the model layer, but should encompass the entire technology stack—from verifiable inference processes and confidential payment infrastructures to secure agent systems and transparent governance and economic models—all under user control.

$NEAR stated that it has been building this infrastructure for about a decade, and that its early architectural choices in the areas of granular scalability, computational model, chain abstraction, and privacy formed the basis for AI agents to perform scaled operations and for user sovereignty to be preserved.

However, $NEAR is trading in a region approximately 87% lower than its all-time high of around $20.

The statement also noted that $NEAR AI’s proprietary inference infrastructure supports Venice’s privacy-focused AI platform, which has reached over 3 million registered users.

$NEAR AI Cloud reportedly offers anonymization and TEE-supported latent inference for more than 30 models, including those from major AI providers and open-source models.
