Paid in DOGE: Dogecoin Co-Founder Shares Ultimate Crypto Experience

Dogecoin cofounder Billy Markus, who goes by Shibetoshi Nakamoto on X, shared what he says was “the most crypto thing” he had done in a recent X reply.

Markus’ comment came in response to ITrustCapital’s question to its followers about the ‘most crypto thing’ they did over the weekend.

The Dogecoin cofounder replied that using Dogecoin to pay for a ride on the Las Vegas Loop was the ‘most crypto thing’ he did; however, it was not that weekend.

“I bought a ride in the Vegas Loop with Dogecoin (tho that was not this weekend but still it was the most crypto thing xD),” Markus replied.

In July 2022, Elon Musk’s Boring Company took the entire crypto community by surprise by announcing a Dogecoin payment option when it opened its first Loop station outside the Las Vegas Convention Center.

The Boring Company allowed customers to pay for rides on Loop, its Las Vegas transit system, with the cryptocurrency Dogecoin. This seems to be what the Dogecoin cofounder was referring to, reflecting the joy of using the same cryptocurrency he created to pay for a ride on the Loop. Dogecoin was launched in late 2013 by Billy Markus and Jackson Palmer.

Crypto market selloff ‘boring’

The crypto market largely traded in the red early Tuesday, with $604 million wiped out in liquidations, according to CoinGlass data.

Chipmaking stocks fell in South Korea, pushing the benchmark Kospi stock index down 11%. The drop, one of its worst single-day declines in years, contributed to a risk-off sentiment.

And on the regulatory front, the U.S. Senate has delayed the Clarity Act for now, with just two weeks remaining before the summer recess begins on Aug. 8; the bill’s fate this year is now uncertain.

At the time of writing, Dogecoin was down 3.57% in the last 24 hours to $0.07 and down 4.51% weekly. DOGE-linked futures have seen a drop in open interest, indicating capital outflows.

Commenting on the continued Bitcoin market selloff, Markus responded to an X user, saying, “It is really boring and no one has any attention span.”
