A new peer-reviewed academic study has spotlighted VeChain as one of the many blockchain platforms that played a role in improving healthcare systems’ resilience during the COVID-19 pandemic. Published in ‘Blockchain in Healthcare Today’, the study covered responses provided by primary healthcare during the crisis and potential implementation of blockchain to improve pandemic response preparedness.

The authors of the study, hailing from institutions in Türkiye, Canada, and the UK, analyzed 1,885 articles on the research in primary healthcare carried out during the pandemic. Their bibliometric analysis was able to determine both the issues and the technological tools that they may use to alleviate the same in future outbreaks.

Specifically, the paper said:

“Applications such as Hashlog, VeChain, the Public Health Blockchain Consortium (PHBC) platform, and Hyperchain were used during the COVID-19 pandemic for various purposes.”

The uses included keeping track of vaccine inventory to managing secure health data.

The authors stressed that blockchain provides decentralized, transparent, secure, and immutable storage of data. These features are increasingly gaining importance when there is a need to speedily share information in a reliable manner, as mentioned in our previous story.

Regarding its work on COVID-19, systems such as VeChain have proved that they have the capabilities of enhancing the traceability of vaccine manufacturing and distribution.
