Rain Launches Agentic Payments Alliance

Rain, an infrastructure provider for stablecoin payments, has launched the Agentic Payments Alliance (APA), a coalition focused on developing standards for commerce powered by AI agents. Founding members include Visa, Mastercard, Circle, Solana, Remitly. Other members include Avalanche, Chainalysis, Fiserv, Fireblocks, Uniswap Labs and Turnkey.

The alliance will focus on how AI agents can make payments on behalf of users. Key areas include agent authorization, fraud prevention, identity and the transfer of loyalty and rewards.

The APA will operate as a working coalition controlled by its founding members. The group plans to conduct joint research, develop frameworks, test standards for agent identity and authorization, and discuss regulatory issues related to agent-driven payments.

Rain has developed its own Agent Control Layer and Scoped Cards, which provide AI agents with payment credentials designed to limit their access. The company will also give alliance members early access to its Agentic Startup Program, which supports startups developing applications for agentic commerce.
