Soluna and Bitdeer are expanding a Bitcoin mining partnership before the original deployment has even finished.

Soluna announced on September 28 that Bitdeer will add approximately 7 MW of mining equipment at Project Kati 1 in South Texas.

The amendment increases Bitdeer’s total planned deployment at the site to 35 MW.

Bitdeer Will Bring The Hardware

Under the agreement, Bitdeer supplies and owns the mining equipment.

The arrangement is slightly different from a traditional hosting deal.

A conventional mining host is generally paid for providing power and rack space.

Soluna’s co-mining structure gives it exposure to the Bitcoin produced by the machines rather than relying solely on fixed hosting revenue.

For Bitdeer, the model provides access to power and infrastructure without requiring it to build another site from scratch.

Project Kati 1 is an 83 MW facility connected with wind generation in Willacy County, Texas.

Soluna’s broader business model focuses on locating energy-intensive computing near renewable generation that would otherwise be curtailed or underused.

Bitcoin mining has historically been the main workload for that model, although the company has increasingly positioned its sites for other forms of high-performance computing as well.

The timing of the expansion is notable.

Soluna and Bitdeer announced their original 28 MW agreement only in August.

Adding another 7 MW roughly a month later takes the deployment to 35 MW before the first agreement has fully ramped.

That is a relatively straightforward vote of confidence in the site.

Bitcoin mining economics can change quickly with price, network difficulty and power costs.

For now, Bitdeer is responding by adding more machines.
