BREAKING: Pakistan Proposes a Two-Week Ceasefire in the Iran-U.S. Conflict; Iran Responds Positively – Here’s the Latest Update

As diplomatic contacts continue amid escalating tensions between the US and Iran, indirect negotiations are reportedly ongoing. An Iranian official, speaking to Reuters, stated that communication with the US is taking place through intermediaries, but provided no details.

A notable development in the process came from Shehbaz Sharif. The Pakistani Prime Minister requested that US President Donald Trump extend the deadline given to Iran by two weeks. Sharif also asked Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz for the same period as a “gesture of goodwill.”

According to Axios, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that Trump was aware of the proposal and that Washington’s response would be given shortly. A senior Iranian official, speaking to Reuters, indicated that Tehran viewed Pakistan’s two-week ceasefire proposal “positively.”

Although progress in negotiations has been reported in the last 24 hours, sources say a comprehensive agreement before Trump’s deadline is unlikely. It is also reported that discussions within the White House have shifted from “is an agreement possible?” to “is it possible by this evening?”

The crisis is underpinned by harsh military threats. Trump stated that if Iran does not open the Strait of Hormuz, bridges, power plants, and oil infrastructure could be targeted. In a post on the social media platform Truth Social, Trump drew attention with the words, “An entire civilization could be destroyed tonight.”

The Iranian side, however, warned that in such a scenario, there would be retaliation against energy and water infrastructure in the Gulf countries. Among the biggest obstacles in the negotiations are Iran’s demand for strong assurances that the war will not resume after a ceasefire, and the slow pace of decision-making processes due to security concerns.
